I recently started a new novel. I'm not quite finished with my current WIP. What are your thoughts on starting a new project before the old is finished?

Support it whole-heartedly! Otherwise I'd never finish anything. :-)

Oh I do this all the time...the distraction of it drives me crazy but my mind cannot stay quite. At least I'm never bored.

I'm with Summer. If you feel the need to work on something else, work on something else. My NaNo idea completely flopped and I have decided to do something else entirely. But I'm writing so I'm not complaining.

I usually have two projects going on. It helps me think and keep focused. If I get bored with one, I can always go to the other and vice versa.

I never work on more than one manuscript at a time. I am 58k words with my WIP.

But do what works best for you; if you're not feeling the book you started maybe it’s best to start something else.

Best of luck.

I never work on more than one either. But this idea came, so I wrote it. I think I'm going to just save it, finish the other, and then I'll work on it.

Sarah,
I have been extremely busy and haven't wrote in weeks. I feel that I am not doing the meme justice and was wondering if you would like to make Confessions of the Un-Published it's new home?

I can't work on two things at once. Everything gets too jumbled in my head and then the characters start fighting for my time. It can get very messy. ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for following! Love your background!

I can't ever work on more than one thing either. My mind is not that fully trained. I'm a big believer in "you have to feel it". You just do, so I'm with you if it feels right then 2 novels at once it is.

I'm to single-minded I guess. I have to finish one project before I start a new one. And by finish, I mean first draft, second, third... however many it takes. THEN I can start a new project. Hehe!

I used to switch from project to project, but I find it so much more difficult now that I'm writing actual novels.
It's different for everyone, though. :]

Be careful you don't get SNIS (sexy new idea syndrome) Frankie Writes talks about it on her blog : http://frankiediane.blogspot.com/2010/02/snis-sexy-new-idea-syndrome.html

It's okay as long as you continue to work on the other piece.

I'm not sure you just have to make sure you don't forget to finish the other one or put it off. By the Way I am following that one blog you asked me to for the contest(But I am not participating in the contest, Hope that is ok☺)

Awesome blog! I couldn't have 2 projects in the 1st draft stage going at once, but I could edit one ms while working on a second. In fact I am. :)

I have a little something over on my blog for you. Drop by when you can!

I've been writing all kinds of new short stories during my revision breaks. It helps me stay enamored with the writing process so that I actually come back to my big WIP. :)

As long as I have at least one first draft finished, then I can work on two projects at once. And I actually find that helpful.

But if I don't have that first draft finished, then I tend to go back and forth between the two projects, but never finish either.

I think you need to write what is in your brain. If something new jumps in there, by all means get it onto paper! You can divide your time between both projects!

Why not? As long as you're writing, you're safe!

I gave your blog an award @ http://madeleinerex.com/2010/02/27/honest-scrap-award/!
