50k in 50 Days! - Day Ten

It's day ten of the 50,000/50 Writing Challenge and I mostly just deleted a bunch of words. (A whole chapter actually.) Word Count: 4,629. Eh, not so good. I was going to do a dual narrative type thing but today I decided to drop side B (the guys's perspective) and mostly b/c I'm not a guy. I couldn't really get inside his head. So I'm happy that I made a decision but it also sucks that it hurt my word count.
But also thrilled that it's already day 10 of this thing! And even if I'm not keeping up at least its helping other people. So congrats everyone. Keep writing! :) And keep on keeping me updated on your progress.

I'm about where you are but I feel like I'm progressing. You are inspiring me to keep moving forward. Thank you for thinking of this...I always need a deadline. : )

That's great that you're sticking with it, though. I joined up with WIP and Writing March Madness this month and I'm failing miserably.

I'm so happy I have found your blog!

That's the same thing that kept me from my 1k a day goal. I got stuck on a section and spent 3 or 4 days delteting ad rewriting. Finally, I had to go back to the beginning and fix some things before I could continue. But I've done about 6-7 since then, so I'm plugging along nicely again. If you follow, Maggie Stiefvater at all, she mentioned a few weeks ago how she had to delete about 20k, so it happens to everyone.

Don't minimize how much it's helping you. I did three years of NaNoWriMo, only to never make it to the 50,000 in thirty days. But with constant trying, I am now able to do a thousand a day....still not NaNoWriMo level, but I'm not complaining. ;)

4,629 words is something to be very proud of. You are also dealing with other things in the story. In my first draft, I don't worry about POVs or depth of the characters. My primary focus is to get the plot on paper. In some areas, I am still working on the time-line. After I get the first draft on paper, I'll be able to see the details of the characters, etc. better. The second draft is when I focus on the details.

Glad it worked out for you... I'm writing from a males pov and loving it... sometimes I think I was a male in my former life (or maybe because I'm surrounded by males) is why I find it easy to write from their pov.

Keep up the great job!!!!

hi!

congrats on sticking with it!

I kind of fell off the bandwagon, but i have been writing consecutively for 3 days! i know thats really sad but its a huge accomplishment for me!

Its a hard decisions to drop an idea or perspective. Maybe you'll be able to incorporate a guy into one of your later story's .

Good luck! and congrats on 4,629!

Dropping what doesn't work is all part of the process. There are always parts of my writing that I don't want to shave off....but, if I know that it's going to help me be more effective, I know I have to do it.

Keep it up. =]
