Arc Review: SLAYED

Title: Slayed
Author: Amanda Marrone
Rating: 3/5
Release Date: October 5, 2010
Good if...you're a Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan

Summary:
The Van Helsing family has been hunting vampires for over one hundred years, but sixteen-year-old Daphne wishes her parents would take up an occupation that doesn’t involve decapitating vamps for cash. All Daphne wants is to settle down in one place, attend an actual school, and finally find a BFF to go to the mall with. Instead, Daphne has resigned herself to a life of fast food, cheap motels and buying garlic in bulk.  But when the Van Helsings are called to a coastal town in Maine, Daphne’s world is turned upside down. Not only do the Van Helsings find themselves hunting a terrifying new kind of vampire (one without fangs but with a taste for kindergarten cuisine), Daphne meets her first potential BF! The hitch? Her new crush is none other than Tyler Harker, AKA, the son of the rival slayer family.  What's a teen vampire slayer to do?

My Thoughts...
I got to read this book early as part of Good Golly Miss Holly's arc tours.  Pretty cool, huh? :)  Anyway, on to the review...
So, this isn't a debut novel by Amanda Marrone, but it sure felt like one.  It had the potential to be great and it was great in theory, but when it came to the actual execution something was lacking.  I did love the kick-butt females, the vampire slaying, and the whole Van Helsing twist to the story.  BUT.  But towards the end of the novel I felt like the author started writing on hyper-drive.  I mean the MC and the leading guy finally kissed and suddenly they were an item and I just didn't feel the spark.  It happened way too fast.  I guess that was my main complaint.  It didn't feel real.  It felt rushed and awkward.  So I gave it 3/5 because I liked the action, I liked the characters, I just didn't like how incomplete it felt towards the end.

I haven't read this one yet, but I've read all of the author's other books and she does about the same thing in each of them. It has a great start then suddenly it kind of drags then way rushed in the end. I'll probably pass on this one. Thanks for the review!
