Wannabe Writers is an Internet writing group I created. Everyone is welcome to join. It's a place to meet other writers, ask questions, and get feedback. Click here to find out more about how it works.
Where I am in the writing process: Unpublished. And now currently, officially taking a break from writing.
My current problem(s): Not writing. I haven't even opened my novel word document all week. I just haven't felt like writing at all. I interviewed for a new job on Monday and I'm still waiting to hear back about whether I got the job or not. (I'm feeling kinda sad about it since I meet lots of other great applicants while I was there and they aren't taking that many people.) So, my head hasn't been clear enough for writing.
My question this week: Do you tell other people about your writing? (I mean sure my husband and my immediate family all know by now. But I hide it from everyone else. Co-workers. Friends. Etc.)

Are you doing NaNo this year? Sorry I haven't been able to participate the last few weeks. I haven't forgotten or given up, I've just been struggling with some things.
Amanda--
I might be doing NaNo. If I end up getting this job I will have to do a 7 week training which starts the first of Nov. If that end up happened then no. If not, then yes. :) I'll post something if I end up doing it.
Congrats on the interview, and good luck with the job! :)And no worries about the break; breaks are good sometimes. Not all writing happens on paper or on the computer. Some of my best ideas came during breaks. :)
I don't talk about my writing much. I've known a LOT of people who mention casually in conversation, "Oh, I'm writing a novel," and then never do, or they talk about it so much that it becomes obnoxious and I don't want to be that person, you know? I mention writing from time to time on my blog, but in real life, it's not something I bring up.
I hope you get the job! And don't worry about taking a much needed break from writing. I find I have to every now and then too. I never stay away for long, and I'll bet you'll be back to that WiP after giving yourself permission to step back and breath.
Have a restful weekend!
I pray that you get the job! I don't tell many people about my writing. Sometimes, on my Facebook or Twitter page, I mention that I'm gonna spend the day writing and working on my novel. though. My parents are kinda proud parents, so they tell people every once in a while. :)
My best friends know... but people from my school.... not so much. I like keeping it a secret, and even regret telling my friends cause one of them is always asking about it!
Good luck on the job!
I tend to not tell people (especially co-workers) outside my inner circle. Part of it is that I don't want to be that obnoxious person, part is that I'm insecure about my role as a writer, and part of it is that I don't want to answer "What do you write?" because my current WIP is a bit off the mainstream.
I think it's perfectly ok if you want to keep it a secret (or just avoid the topic). Eventually you'll get to the point you tell others.
Good luck on the job!
I do tell people I write, and sometimes I wish I didn't. I really don't have any 'real life' writing friends. Most of them are people online who understand the whole writing process while the people I see and talk to on a daily basis just don't get it. They have no idea why I can't just buckle down and finish a story or why I drop some stories that just aren't working.
I'm right there with ya, looking for a new job and not writing. As for telling people, nah, I don't. My family, boyfriend, close friends know and that's it.
Gosh, several of us are preparing to change jobs here soon. I am hoping to teach full-time and studying like crazy.
I don't publicize my writing life, but my close friends and family know what I am doing. I figure I will advertise when I am published. Seems more sensible to me.
