Wannabe Writers #40 (Too Complicated)

Wannabe Writers is an Internet writing group. Everyone is welcome to join. It's a place to meet other writers, ask questions, and get feedback. Click here to find more about how it works.

Where I am in the writing process: Unpublished with three novels in progress at the moment, but I'm only focusing on one of those three.

My current problem(s): Not writing. I'm still on a break and am currently suffering from strep throat.  Fun.  Fun.  I've been sick this whole month it feels like.  Maybe once I finally feel better I'll try to make myself get back into the writing.  I did, however, get some feedback from my one critique partner.  Positive.  And she gave me a really great idea for my story.  Although, I'm starting to feel like my story is way too complex.  Do you know what I mean?  And wrapping it all up at the end keeps getting more and more difficult.

My question this week: Is too complicated bad?

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!

I don't think "too complicated" is bad as long as it's well written.

Hope you get to feeling well in Nov. It's too bad you've been sick. Hopefully, you will get back on a writing kick. I've been lagging as well and I am hoping NaNoWriMo will kick my behind into gear.

I think if it's well done it can be good. Is the book a series? If so and you're really worried about it, you could move some of the subplots to other books in the series (or even leave some of them at a cliffhanger point to keep people anticipating the next book).

I hope you feel better soon!

I think you want to strive for a 'complex' plot, not a complicated one. A plot with subplots and twists and turns and all that jazz, but that flows together with direction and purpose.
