Book Review: SEA CHANGE

Title: Sea Change
Author: Aimee Friedman
Rating:
Good if...you want something comfy and romantic--a perfect beach book.

Summary (Amazon):
16-year-old Miranda Merchant is great at science...and not so great with boys. After major drama with her boyfriend and (now ex) best friend, she's happy to spend the summer on small, mysterious Selkie Island, helping her mother sort out her late grandmother's estate.
There, Miranda finds new friends and an island with a mysterious, mystical history, presenting her with facts her logical, scientific mind can't make sense of. She also meets Leo, who challenges everything she thought she knew about boys, friendship...and reality.
Is Leo hiding something? Or is he something that she never could have imagined?

My thoughts...
In case you can't guess--this book is a Mermaid book. Here is the basic idea of it: Girl goes to Selki Island for the summer. Girl keeps running into mysterious boy. Boy could be a merman. --Now this book didn't blow me out of the water but I did really enjoy it. It was soft, comfy-sweet, and romantic. My favorite part was Miranda and Leo's relationship. I loved how on there first meeting they kissed. There was no "maybe I like him", "does he like me", "I don't think he likes me", "do I like him"--and back and forth and back and forth. She liked him, he liked her. It wasn't overly dramatic. That's why I want to own it. It's something I can see myself re-reading from time to time over my lifetime. I have a few books like this--fall back books--books I like to read on vacation or when I just need something good and romantic. It's like comfort food. This book left me wanting more. I need a sequel. 4/5 stars.

Every summer I go on a two week vacation to a beach with my family and I think I will save this to read there.
