Wannabe Writers #9

Wannabe Writers is my weekly meme. It's a writing group for the un-published and anyone is welcome to join. It's a place where future authors can ask questions, share stories, and get feedback. Click (here) to find out how it works.

Where I am in the writing process: I've been writing since November 2008. I am currently starting a brand new writing project. (50,000/50 Writing Challenge) Today makes day 16 and my progress stands at 6,469 words.

My current problems: My biggest problem has been keeping up with my 1,000 word per day goal. I wrote about 6,000 in week one. In week two I wrote about 500 words. And I think I worked the same amount of hours over each. So that editing thing is still one of my biggest problems.
I've also been thinking a lot about writing romance (in Young Adult). Which leads me to this week's questions...

My question this week: Writing Romance? How to develop a relationship out of thin air and make it believable? (And not just lust)

I'm having trouble with this too. To get by the problem right now, I'm having the relationship develop pretty slowly. The characters are teens so there's a lot of flirting and a few cheesy lines.

So I guess...make it feel real. Don't rush it if the characters aren't ready. If they are, sometimes attraction just happens, both in books and in real life.

What I've done is make myself write the daily goal PLUS edit. It can be exausting, but it helps keep the story alive too. The other thing I found out is that too much editing can actually take away from the writing goal. This week, I decided to loosen up on the editing and simply write. I know that some of it won't be used, and that's okay. What won't be used helped me to get what I will keep.
As for YA, do you read it often? Have you noticed how things are worded/character interactions? What about hanging out at a library and eavesdropping on some teens conversations? Sounds weird, but it's helpful if you don't have one at home!
For me, I'm sticking to one project unless I absolutely have to set it aside to take care of something else. Like another projects for an upcoming competition.

Wow - like the new look. I got off to a slow start with the 1000 words a day as well but going to try and catch up. Romance - study the successful romance writers. My post is up now.

I posted my answer. It's a little long-winded, but that's just how I talk, haha. If anybody has any comments or disagreements, feel free to go post. =] I really like this meme, by the way....glad you created it.

I prefer a nice build up. But I've been guilty of having stars in my eyes on a occasion fairly early. It can happen! Translating that into text and making it believable is something I haven't tinkered with, but perhaps this question will encourage me to try it out. Getting out of ones comfort zone is a good thing. Great question!

PS. I love the new design. It rocks!
