In My Mailbox #13

This is "In my mailbox" a meme run by Kristi at The Siren Story (http://www.thestorysiren.com/) Here's what I got this week...

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home. But when a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change. But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart. (With all the blogger buzz, I just had to have this one.)

Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles
Maggie has just returned home from a long stay in the hospital to repair the leg that was badly injured in an automobile accident; Caleb has just returned from prison, where he served nine months for driving the car that hit Maggie. In spite of a court order to stay away from her, Caleb continues to encounter Maggie and even ends up working for Mrs. Reynolds, the same elderly lady who Maggie helps. Telling the story in alternate chapters, Elkeles reveals the traumatic accident and its consequences from both victims' points of view. Maggie can no longer play tennis and is now convinced that she is ugly; Caleb must endure the harassment of his former friends, especially the beautiful, seductive Kendra. Not everything in the crowded plot is adequately addressed, but Elkeles creates raw emotions, dialogue, and high-school ambience that's just right. (After reading PERFECT CHEMISTRY I just had to have this.)

I also got Beastly by Alex Flinn this week. I already read it and reviewed it.

I have been debating for weeks about buying The Iron King! I think I'll just have to go get it, my library doesn't have it yet.

Great books! But I had a hard time getting into Beastly, I never finished it.

I enjoyed Leaving Paradise, and I thought the end was very interesting.

I read Beastly a while ago and really enjoyed it. I thought Flinn was very clever modernizing the story with the chat rooms and such. A Kiss In Time is good, too, if you haven't picked that up yet.

Enjoy your books!
