Wannabe Writers #55 (Finding the Time)

Wannabe Writers is my Internet writing group. Anyone is welcome to join. It's a place to meet other writers, ask questions, and get feedback. Basically, my posts are about my current writing progress, my problems, and any questions I need help answering. If you've created a similar post of your own lately, feel free to link in the comments.

Where I am in the writing process: Unpublished! And still currently speed-writing through the first draft of the novel I'm calling ELIXIR. I reached 50K this week.  And I'm moving!  Tomorrow!  To Miami!  So, stuff has kind of been put on hold until things settle down and it drives me semi-crazy when I can't write as much as I'd like to.

My current problem(s): Finding the time.  I want to keep up with my speed-writing process, but it's a little tricky when life gets in the way.  Sometimes I'd love nothing more than to lock myself in a room and write and write and write.  It doesn't work that way.  (I totally wish I would have started writing back in high school or even college when I had tons of time!)

My question(s) this week: How do you make time?

You're moving to Miami? That's awesome! My brother lives there, and I'm only an hour north. You'll love it here.

I write at work, early in the morning when I can't sleep, at night when I get home. I write whenever I can squeeze it in. I even carry a tiny notebook around with me.

Hope you find the time!

I always have an excuse not to write, but I find time late at night or early in the morning when it's quiet.

I'm in Miami Beach. We have a strong kidlit community in Miami-Dade. Good luck with your move.

Oh if only we all had total control over time and what we do with it! That would be living in a perfect world, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, like you said, it doesn't work that way.

It's hard to find time, but as writers, you just have to MAKE time. Maybe instead of eating or sleeping... or something crazy like that ;)

Good luck on the move! I have a friend who lives in Miami and loves it. :)

How do I make time? At first, I stole time. Most of my writing was done after midnight when I first started writing, because that was the only quiet time that existed for me. Now that I'm no longer homeschooling and (since it's summer), my son spends a huge chunk of the day outside or playing with friends, I can actually write during daylight hours! I'll be back to sneaking chunks of time here and there in the fall, though, as I'm going back to school, but I'll fit it in, even if I have to stay up late. I think better in the dark, anyway. :)
