I wrote the end of my book today! I feel like shouting it off a mountain top!!!!

Where I am in the writing process: Unpublished, but no longer unfinished! Today, after nearly 9 months of working painstakingly on the same novel, and three years of writing stuff but finishing nothing...today I finished something! I officially have one completed rough draft of a manuscript. Let the hallelujah chorus play! And the query letters begin!

My current problem(s): So, today I wrote the ending and through out the entire process of writing this novel I've always known how it was going to end. I had it all played out clearly in my mind. Only, today when I got to the ending and wrote it...something entirely different popped out of my brain and onto the page!!! It shocked me about as much as I think the ending would shock other readers! And it's a major cliffhanger!!! Ah! I can't decide if this is good or bad.
My question for today: Thoughts on cliffhangers? Do you love them or hate them?

It's funny how something we think is set in stone can be changed in a moment.
As for cliffhangers, it depends. How quickly can I get my hand on the next book? :) Overall, I think they can be handled well, especially if the main story is resolved, except for some small piece that pulls you into the next in the series. Looking forward to hearing where you go from here!
Yay! Congrats for you! I've only ever finished one story and now I just keep eyeing it from a distance. Sigh.
As for cliffhangers, I love to hate them. Sometimes if it ends too "nicely" I almost don't care about reading anymore of the series. However, if there's enough questions left hanging but not a huge cliffhanger, per se, that's a nice medium.

I use cliffhangers. If it's a great book, it will be worth the wait for the next one to come out. I don't mind them so much.

Thanks guys!!! It does feel good to finally be done with something. I was thinking about doing NaNoWriMo...but now I'm not so sure. Starting something new so soon seems stressful. I don't know.
I love to hate cliffhangers as they do make you want to read the next book but I hate the wait to find out.

It's a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers for me. For the most part though, I do love them. It keeps you interested in the story, wanting to know what happens next. But I hate them if I have to wait A LONG TIME to find out what happens next.
Ever since it became a common thing I've hated them. I wasn't too fond of them before mind you but now when I see a cliffhanger I see many of them as being a ploy to force the reader to continue onto the next book as opposed to being a necessary end to the novel.
But I won't mind a cliffhanger so much as long as the story arc in the novel I am reading is done that means the story is complete but if you read onto the next book you will find out more. The cliffhangers I hate the most is when the story ends and the arc didn't finish so the book was basically incomplete and I feel like I wasted my time reading it.
