Wannabe Writers is my weekly writing updates. My posts consist of my weekly writing progress, my problems, and any questions I need help answering.
Where I am in the writing process: I've been tackling this writing thing for three years this month!! Unpublished, but no longer unfinished! Last week I completed my first novel ELIXIR. It took me about 9 months to write from start to finish. I've put it aside for now as I'm completely sick of looking at/thinking about it. Although, it's sequel has started playing out in my head.
My current problem(s): Not really sure what to do next.
I was thinking of trying NaNoWriMo, but I've decided against that. Putting pressure on my writing just stresses me out. I've found I take less breaks/get more done when I write at my own pace. And it's not like I need the push either. I've been consistently writing for three years and I plan to keep doing that. Maybe next year.
So, another option would be to finish my other novel GLITCH. OMG! The thought terrifies me. GLITCH is the novel I've been writing since the start of those three years. Rewritten it/edited it to death a million times over. It drives me insane. It's why I had to put it aside and write ELIXIR instead. But at the same time, it's the story I really really want to finish. I reread it yesterday, all 70K of it, and it's not totally bad. Although, there are some rewrites I'd like to do. I'm afraid if I start working on it then I'll get stuck working on it forever again! It might be doomed to go unfinished forever!!!

SO, my options are writing a sequel to ELIXIR, finishing GLITCH, or starting something brand new.
My question for today: Can certain writing project become toxic? As in, unfinishable?

Sometimes a certain projects can become that way. One story I started to write when I was younger never got finished because it just wasn't going to happen. I think it's best to focus on one that we really want to do and not get hung up on something that will just make us come full circle and get nowhere.
I think it was a good choice for you to take a step back and not do NaNo this year. Especially after finishing a whole story recently! It's good to take a break every now and then. Maybe next year!
I'm not a writer, so I really can't offer any advice, But I do want to congratulate you on finishing your first novel! Very exciting!
